Doreen from Simon's Town Patisserie wins Diners Club award
Doreen Alcock from The Sweetest Thing Patisserie has won the Diners Club national 2008 dine award for the Most Promising Pastry Chef Newcomer.

The Sweetest Thing has been open for two years and is co-owned by Doreen and her husband Keith.
Patrons can enjoy a selection of delectable pastries including, cheesecake, lemon meringue and chocolate éclair.
The patisserie also offers excellent coffee, breakfast, delicious pies and quiche.

Simon's Town Seniors Computer Club (STSCC)

Simonstown South Africa or Simon's Town South Africa The inaugural meeting of STSCC was held in May 2000 and by August of that year the club had 60 members. Current membership is 280, with a committee of 11, several of whom are regular lecturers at the various computer courses offered by the club.

By a mutually favourable arrangement with Simon's Town High School, afternoon classes are held in the school computer laboratory, and include basic Beginners, Word, Intermediate, Excel, Internet/WWW, as well as special interest courses such as Digital Photo Editing, and Scanners. Once a term experts in various fields lead a Question and Answer Session which is free and open to all members, and twice a year members are invited to an informal social.

The membership fee is R40 per annum. Depending on the course, 2-hour hands-on classes run for 3 to 7 weeks on a once a week basis, at a cost of R30 per class.

"Simon's Town-Views from the Bay" presents more than 100 beautiful photographs taken mainly from Simon's Bay. It contains a fold -out map of Simon's Town and a guide as to what to do, where to stay and where to eat!
The authors Boet Dommisse and Dave Hurwitz believe that while the book will be of value to tourists, it also presents residents with a "new" view of this fascinating town and bay.

Admiralty House - Simon's Town. Published 15 February 2005 This richly illustrated and elegant book was written by Boet Dommisse, at the request of Naval Base, Simon's Town. It sets out to record the history of the house, dating from 1740, the many interesting people who lived in or visited Admiralty House, and some of their stories.
It also describes Admiralty House of today - its furnishings, art and objets d'art. The attractive gardens, Flora and the Portuguese cannons are also included. Yet it remains an eminently readable work with over 300 relevant illustrations, 160 pages with hard and dust covers.
The book has been privately published and only 600 copies will be sold.
